INFRASTRUCTURE (SYSTEM) ENGINEER
Exhibits technical knowledge and experience in directly supporting enterprise-wide and/or departmental clinical, financial and business server systems as evidenced by capabilities in assisting in the design, testing, deployment, maintenance and support of multiple Windows server systems in the Organization's integrated, state-of-the-art, multi-facility health system.
Exhibits technical knowledge and experience with desktop, server and other peripheral hardware as evidenced by capabilities in hard drive configurations and hard drive mirroring and with RAID, desktop and network operating systems as evidenced by capabilities with MS Windows Operating Systems and network protocols as evidenced by capabilities with TCP/IP.
Exhibits technical knowledge and experience with multiple desktop, server software and tools as evidenced by capabilities Active Directory, MS Exchange, MSO Suite, file/print/application services, emulation software, multimedia applications, and application gateways.
Exhibits technical knowledge and experience in new site set-ups, department/office/building moves and desktop and server upgrades. Demonstrates knowledge of tape back-up and recovery systems and software.
Develops and maintains proficient use of project management software tools (e.G., Microsoft Project, tracking of hardware software). Understands and adheres to project implementation and problem resolution priorities set by Networks and IS management. Assists in the identification, evaluation and testing of potential new software, hardware, tools and technologies. Makes recommendations for purchase. Ensures new hardware and software are adequate for projected growth. Participates as an active, contributing member of project teams. Ensures tasks and projects are completed in a successful and timely manner.
Exhibits ability to resolve problems effectively and efficiently. Ensures minimal disruptions and downtimes of responsible network server-based systems. Utilizes technical knowledge and experience to effectively and efficiently analyze issues, diagnose problems and determines resolutions.
Documents all problem-solving measures that properly allow for other team members to resolve recurring problems effectively and efficiently. Escalates problems in a timely manner to Director Technical Services, other on-call/management staff and vendors as necessary.
Demonstrates preventive maintenance capabilities by following sound implementation procedures such as ensuring new hardware and/or software is installed, pre-configured and tested in the test bed and in pilot locations prior to a formal rollout in a production environment.
Communicates technically and non-technically with team members, other IS professional staff, IS management, users and vendors to ensure successful and cooperative completion of tasks and projects to resolve problems in a timely manner. Communicates and follows up in a positive, meaningful manner with customers on the status of problems and projects, and proper procedures for systems evaluations. Communicates current task and project priorities that may conflict with their service requests and alternatives to requests for services that do not meet standards.
Performs successfully administrative responsibilities necessary to comply with Organization, IS policies, procedures and standards. Assists with developing documentation necessary for all planned network server-based system implementations and upgrades, including detailed technical specifications, work plans, test plans, implementation, downtime schedules, and back out/recovery plans. Assists in the training and mentoring of existing and new employees, including developing training materials and conducting training sessions.
Communicates, written or orally, to other IS staff, IS management, on a regular basis, the status on problem resolutions and project implementations as necessary. Communicates problem and resolution status to vendors in a timely and professional manner. Participates as an active, contributing member in regular Technical Services staff meetings and other assigned team/project meetings.
Documents policies, procedures, standards and methodologies necessary for the proper use and maintenance of network servers, operating systems, applications and protocols. Ensures all work (e.G. Design, distribution, repairs) is done in compliance with all licensing laws, legal requirements and industry standards.
- Associate degree or technical degree or equivalency.
- Two years’ experience with latest version of windows applications, servers, operating systems, Active Directory, Exchange Servers, TCP/IP, IPX protocols, hard drive configurations, mirroring, RAID, software distribution tools, and directory services.
- Previous experience with workstation, server, and operating system technologies.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, project implementation, troubleshooting skills. Strong teamwork abilities.
- Microsoft network technologies.
- Previous desktop, server hardware, and peripherals, multiple network protocols, network client software, e-mail, office suite, server management, tape back-up systems experience.
